What should I expect?

A challenging and individualized hour-long outdoor workout appropriate for any fitness level from the novice to the elite athlete. There is an instructor-led warmup with light running or walking, a main work out consisting of varied strength and cardio training and class is ended with a core focus, cool-down and stretch. Each exercise is explained by instructors, and modifications can be made to accommodate everyone including those who are pregnant, newly postpartum or have injuries/restrictions.

Why is it different from a gym?

Jacksonville Mom Strength is created by local moms for local moms looking for an outdoor work out! One of the benefits of being surrounded by other mothers is that they are able to motivate each other and learn from one another. You are provided with a built in support network that keeps you accountable and you don’t need to worry about paying for child care or allowing someone else to care for your children. Jacksonville Mom Strength kids are just as engaged as their moms and they get to socialize too- all while growing up seeing their moms make their health and fitness a priority. It’s a work out and a playdate for moms and kids all in one!

p

What do I need to bring?

If it’s your first class, your instructor will have everything you need to borrow but water and snacks for you and your kids is helpful.  Regulars bring 5 -8 lb weights and yoga mat (or beach towel).

p

Where and when are classes?

Classes are held Monday-Friday mornings in Mandarin and Nocatee. Both locations are less than a 20 minute drive from St. Augustine, St. Johns, Fruit Cove, Mandarin, Orange Park, Southside, Baymeadows, San Marco, and the Town Center.  Please click on the calendar for time and exact locations.

p

Does weather affect classes?

Thanks to the ideal conditions in Northeast Florida, class is rarely cancelled for weather. It’s rare for the temperature to dip below 40 degrees in the winter and in the summer we start earlier and stay in the shade. In the event of extreme weather, we offer live at home work outs so you never have to miss a class. Members also have access to past live work outs that they can access any time they can’t make it to class.

Do I need a stroller? What if my baby gets fussy?

Strollers are only preferred for babies. If your baby gets fussy, you can easily take them out to  feed or soothe them. Our locations also have paved paths where we encourage moms to get a brisk walk or jog in and then rejoin class whenever they are ready. You can keep moving so your work out or child is not compromised.

p

What do the kids do?

It depends on their age! The little babies often sleep in the stroller, play on a blanket or can be used as a weight for the exercises. Toddlers tend to run and play near the group and they are always encouraged to join! During the summer, it is a mix of babies, toddlers and big kids all outside having fun with mom in eyesight.  We encourage the big kids to bring bikes and scooters or anything they enjoy. We are never far from the playground- sometimes we are even in it!
